Corrine Broussard Murphey
BREAUX BRIDGE - A religious funeral service will be held at a later date for Mrs. Corinne Broussard Murphey, 104, who passed away Tuesday, December 9, 2008, at 12:34 am, at Dauterive Hospital.Mrs. Murphey, was born to Simon Broussard and Constance Hardy in 1904 and was to remain the only daughter in a family of six sons. Mrs. Murphey's memories began as a tot living on her great-grandmother's plantation in Lafayette, the current site of the Cajundome and Cajun Field. Her father was the overseerer for a few years. She remembered living in the huge house with a big front porch being carried around by the servants to see the chickens and the cows.Life back in Breaux Bridge was equally as pleasant, but as the only girl with six brothers, she was often shooed away to play with her dolls. The family lived on farmland where Huval's Insurance and Pizza Hut are located. She got around in a horse and buggy on dirt and gravel roads. Her teenage years in Breaux Bridge were the best of times. Summer afternoons were spent visiting in the park. Sometimes they had their own entertainment. Corinne could play the ukelele, sing, and dance, and gracefully converse with people from all cultures and walks of life. She also was an accomplished pianist.Over the years, Corinne traveled extensively and lived in various locations, but mostly in Breaux Bridge. She enjoyed being in various music clubs. She enjoyed playing Bridge and Canasta. She also was a member of garden clubs. She regularly attended meetings of the Daughters of the Confederacy and the Home Demonstation Club. The things most important to her were her rosary group, being a member of St. Bernard's Catholic Church and her family. She loved her son, Winn, her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Her grandchildren were all graduates of LSU. She also attended LSU.People often asked her secret to a long life. She replied, "good genes." Her grandfather lived to 94 and her maternal grandmother lived to 94. She said she never smoked, tried to eat good foods and keep away from rich foods-except ice cream. She also included her wonderful neighbors. They enabled her to live a long, truly blessed life. When she went to bed at night, she would pray to keep well, as she wanted to care for herself. She said living a long life is essential to living a good one.Mrs. Murphey is survived by her loving son, Winn, of New Iberia; three grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren; plus a number of nieces and nephews.Mrs. Murphey was preceded in death by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Simon Broussard of Breaux Bridge, her husband, John Smith Murphey, of Fulton, Ky.; her six brothers, Sam, Claude, Fernand, Whitney, Henry, and Raoul.Acadian Funeral Home, 802 Weldon Street, New Iberia, Phone 364-6162 is in charge of the arrangements.

The Big 36 Came and Will GO Before You Know
Well here it is, the layout that I was so excited to use the new Sassafrass Lass paper. Okay, so I never thought I would like this paper because it's soooo cutesy...which is actually kinda my style, but I'm not a owl kinda person. Anyways, I had so much fun making this layout and paper piecing the cupcake which matches the paper.
Here are a couple of pictures from one of my birthday celebrations. I actually had one of the best birthdays ever! It felt like a whole weekend of celebrations. On Friday I played tennis, went to Tinsels and Treasures and then MDH took me to the movies and dinner! Wow, it was a full day. Then on Saturday when I got home from teaching at TM my family had a cake to celebrate my birthday and my anniversary which was the next day. Plus Janet got me a cake before my class...I think they are trying to sabotage my fitness plan. Hahaha, I enjoyed both cakes and ate most of both of them! Thank you all who made my birthday so special!

I Know...I Know...it's been along time
Oh and one other quick note...many people have been asking how my parents did for Hurricane Ike. Well, they were verrry lucky. Nothing at all happened in their hometown. Though some of the rest of my family didn't fair so well. My brothers were and still are without power. My aunt and uncle just got word to us that they have a huge tree in the middle of their living room. They live in the Woodlands, which to my memory had lots of very tall trees. They happen to be huge LSU fans so they evacuated to Baton Rouge to see the game, thank goodness. I am just so thankful for my family all being alive and safe.

Another Class Opened
I know many of you didn't have internet access during Hurricane Gustav and didn't get to register for the calendar class. It did fill up quickly so we have decided to open another section of the class on SEPTEMBER 27TH at 3:00p.m. Please email me, post a message or call the store if you would like to sign up. This layout has many uses. Some people are bring pictures of their night out at the local Japenese restaurants, my pictures were from Las Vegas. Beautiful black and white pictures of your family would look great on this layout as well. You will learn some great techniques and use some new products that are out on the market. See you then!

Gustav Made a Grand Entrace
This sonic is right down the road from us. It hit our area pretty hard!
We saw many downed electrical poles.
It is so amazing that the winds are so strong that it uprooted huge trees. We saw this at many different locations.
The shell station roof was knocked upside down. Look at the gas pumps. Jonathan said, "Well, they price gouge people anyway."
Here is my little man working hard!
